Daniel Martin Moore and Ric Hordinski

Daniel Martin Moore is a singer and songwriter from Kentucky.
His first album, Stray Age, was released at the end of 2008 by Sub
Pop Records. He came to the attention of the label through a
demo package he had mailed. After listening to the demo, the
label found Daniel while
he was working at a friend’s bed and breakfast in Costa Rica. He’d
been a bit of a drifter up until this point, studied photography in
college, joined the Peace Corps in 2006, traveling to Cameroon for
his service. What was supposed to be a two year commitment was cut
short due to illness. So he came back to the states, lived in
Minnesota for a while with his brother (who plays piano on several
tracks), and began to focus on music.
His second record, Dear Companion, is a collaboration with cellist,
singer and songwriter Ben Sollee and was produced by Yim Yames.
Recorded in the first half of 2009 in their home state, the album
explores their ties to the place they love and addresses the impacts
of Mountaintop Removal (MTR) coal mining on the people and heritage
of Central Appalachia. A portion of the proceeds from Dear Companion
will benefit Appalachian Voices, an organization devoted to ending
MTR and finding a better way forward. Learn more about MTR and how
it effects all people at www.ilovemountains.org.

Years before
Radiohead put Sigur Rós on the map, Ric (pronounced "Rich")
Hordinski was painting soundscapes on Over the Rhine records. His
instrumental interludes and echo-laden guitar gave the band a rich,
layered sound, and may have kept the band from falling headlong into
the mid-tempo singer-songwriter abyss.
Since leaving OTR, Ric has appeared on records with David Wilcox,
Tony Levin, Bill Kreutzmann, Victor Wooten, Victoria Williams and
Robbie Fulks. He's produced award-winning records for a host of
folks including Wilcox and Phil Keaggy.
On his own, hiding behind the Monk moniker, he released five
independent records that featured alternately the songwriting craft
he honed during his eight years in OTR, the ambient guitar that
garnered demand as a studio musician and the ear for songcraft that
makes him an excellent producer. Ric recieved a grammy nomination in
2003, two cammy awards and a dove award in 2002.
Singer-songwriter David Wilcox describes his music as "Complex and
compelling. The melodies remain in my head while the lyrics circle
in my memory."

"Luckily for us,
the good folks at Sub Pop decided to open Daniel Martin Moore’s
unsolicited demo on a whim — and even luckier, they liked it. …
what separates Moore is his simplicity: uncomplicated guitar
strumming, gentle vocals and quiet percussion with the
occasional piano. There’s no showmanship here, just a clear love
for straightforward songwriting. It’s quite refreshing." - UR
Chicago Magazine
"A smoldering, ambient wash of beautiful guitar noise using
digital delay and every bit of his immense talent." -The
Flagpole, Athens Georgia
"Ric is a painter, using the melodies of strings to
communicate beautiful colors. He plays beautiful guitar." -
