The
Hummingbirds w/ The Radio Gang, Powell Conley and Greg Poulos
We would
be hard pressed to pick a Trinity House favorite, but one thing we
would guarantee is that the Hummingbirds would be near the top of the
list. We were sad to learn that one of our favorite groups is
getting ready to move to Florida in the months ahead. Rachel and
Steve have made some great music over the last several years.
Steve's guitar work and Rachel's sweet vocals make their beautiful
songs stand out from their country counterparts. We knew we had
to have them play Trinity House one more time before they head south.
Joining them for this evening will be the Radio Gang, Powell Conley
and Greg Poulos..
The Hummingbirds are certainly creating a buzz of their own. You
can expect a twangy mix of memorable melodies and sweet harmonies from
this unique "electro-coustic" duo. Talented
multi-instrumentalist Stephen Grant Wood adds his telecaster
twang into the mix, while songwriter, Rachel Lynn lays down the
rock steady rhythm with the acoustic guitar.
Their
full length self-titled release was voted as "Best Country
Album" in the 2006 Detroit Music Awards.
The songs on the CD, co-written by the duo, tell tales of
love, loss, happiness, and heartache. Their roots style
Americana sound is unique and the songs quickly pull in audiences
for a closer listen. Much inspiration for the group comes
from the country classic sound of the 50’s, 60’s and
70’s as well as from some
of the best influences in American music today such as, Lucinda
Williams, Wilco, Steve Earle, and many others.
The Hummingbirds are
currently touring the midwest region, and are working on a second
full length album, due out later in 2009. They were just
nominated for three more Detroit Music Awards in 2008 (Outstanding
Country Instrumentalist, Outstanding Country Vocalist, and Outstanding
Country Group).
The Radio Gang is a classic country group made up of veteran musicians with deep country music roots.
The group is fronted by Andy Baron and they put the class in classic
country. The Hummingbirds said these
gentleman have been major inspirations for their music. They're
honored to be sharing the stage with these talented musicians.
Greg
Poulos has been playing music since age seven, when he began studying
piano. It wasn't until 1987 that he took a few guitar lessons
and found the perfect instrument for performing.
While attending Western Michigan University, Greg studied the Grateful
Dead songbook, learning nearly every Dead original. From this
experience, he was exposed to a wide variety of amazing music,
including traditional and modern bluegrass, blues, Appalachian folk
songs, and jazz. Greg recorded and released his first solo album
of original songs titled Change Your Life.
Powell Conley is formerly a member of The Huron Valley Boy's and is
now fronting his own "End Of The Road Band".
Don't miss this chance to send the Hummingbirds off with our best wishes.
They're sure to be back, if not as often.

"When
the lyrics hit home, the two voices intertwine, and the guitar is
crying away, The Hummingbirds have all it takes to become classics
themselves." -Alan
